December 2016 Single Trees Dances

From 2015 Christmas Dance

December 9th is Single Trees Christmas dinner (at 6:30 pm) followed by our dance at the ESDC in Hall A. Single Trees will supply the meat (leaning toward ham) and rolls. Anyone who is planning on attending please bring potluck food no later than 6:15 p.m. so we can eat on time in order to dance on time. It would be much appreciated.

Jim Hattrick is the caller for this dance which starts with plus squares at 7:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. we will move into rounds and mainstream.  Our cuer, Jackie Gale, will be on tap for all the round dance aficionados. We hope to see many of our friends from other clubs attend this dance.

Special New Year's Eve Dance, December 31st - (only $2.50 each to celebrate 25 years of the square dance hall). Bring a pie, too (or something that will go with pie). The dance is being hosted by Roger Putzler as caller, and Christina Corelli as cuer. Rounds start are 8:30 p.m. with mainstream starting at 9:00 p.m. and every 3rd tip plus. A toast with sparkling cider in stemmed glasses will occur every hour covering all time zones of the U.S.A. There will be one square dance tip after midnight before closing. All clubs are invited to attend this fun, end of 2016 dance.

16th, Weds. Single Trees, 7 pm to 9 pm - sponsoring a B51 (Basic 51 moves dance), a dance to celebrate the current end of lessons session with Sandy Harris calling. Please attend this dance to welcome new dancers at the B51 level. (And note: clubs will be sponsoring B51 dances mid-month through the end of spring.)

Note: Lessons will begin again on the 22nd at 7 pm at the ESDC. New dancers are encouraged to take lessons again, and stay for the 30 minute session afterward to start learning the rest of the calls for mainstream (about 18 more calls over 10 weeks).

Single Trees September 2016 Dances

9th - Single Trees is holding a special FREE Celebration dance at the Emerald Square Dance Center to welcome Jim Hattrick as our caller for our first dance each month (second Friday). To ensure a good turnout, we decided to make this welcome dance free to all square dancers who attend. 7:30 pm starts with Plus, 8-10:30 pm is Mainstream and Rounds. Jackie Gale is our cuer. Please bring extra finger foods since we expect some visitors as well. This is going to be a wonderful celebration to start off the new dance year.

23rd - Fabulous 50s is the highlight of this dance. Craig Abercrombie and Al Frazier will be doing a calling duo. It should be a lot of fun. Jackie Gale is on tap for the cueing. All times are the same as above.

Lessons!!
September 13th starts B51 square dance lessons with Sandy Harris doing the teaching. Please come and angel and bring some friends and family to learn to square dance. After the first 10 weeks the lessons will start all over again to give those who just learned a chance to solidify their dance skills and to help angel some new folks. At 8:30 the B51 "grads" will be given a half hour lessons after each dance to add some moves to bring them up to mainstream level.  There will be a B51 dance each month starting in November on Wednesdays.  Click on the lesson tab above for more information.  See you there!

Terry Halley

July 8th, Friday - Single Trees Hawaiian Beach Party dance with Terry Halley calling, and Jackie Gale cueing. Jackie will also be teaching a line dance at 7:15 p.m., so be there early if you want to learn it. The doors should be open by 7:05 p.m. Since it is a Hawaiian theme, wear your beach duds or just come casual since it is summer. It would be fun to have island snacks - see how creative you can be.

July 22nd, Friday - Single Trees dance with Lennie Ludiker calling, and Jackie Gale cueing. The line dancing will continue this time as well and most likely for the whole summer.  Before this dance (7:15 pm) Jackie will be reviewing Chili Cha Cha and Volcano. With the continuing summer weather, we will continue to be casual for clothing, even with our air conditioning.

Aug 12th, Friday - Mike Halley calling and Jackie Gale cueing. Just a good summer dance. Come and get cool with us. Love that air conditioning!

With a few exceptions noted below, most other clubs are dark this summer - so if you want to dance, come on out. Whirl-A-Ways are dark for July and August and Danebo Circle 8 is dark for July. Spin Cycle Squares (Sundays 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.) is only dark July 3rd and August 14th.

June 2016 Square Dances

Single Trees Dances:

June 10: Reigning Cats and Dogs Dance - Fund Raiser for Greenhill Humane Society. Donations - dog and cat food, toys, blankets, old towels, etc. You can always give them a call and see what they could use and then bring it to the dance. Cash is always appreciated. 7:30 pm starts with Plus, and 8:00 pm is rounds and mainstream squares until 10:30 p.m. 'Girls Night Out' ( Sandy Harris, Charlotte Jeskey, and Jackie Gale) will be calling for your dancing pleasure. Jackie Gale will be cueing. I wonder if the kitty litter cake will show up this time.

June 24: Jim Hattrick will be calling. Jackie Gale will be our cuer. Same dancing format as above. We could use those finger foods (maybe some more healthy snacks as well as those desserts).

May 2016 Square Dances

May 13th - Friday - Mexican Fiesta dance Single Trees and Whirl-A-Ways. George Hermann and his grandson Mike Kious calling with Jackie Gale doing the round dance cueing. Enjoy our "taco bar" with all the fixings at the break. Club members have signed up for the main foods to bring already, but desserts are always welcome, and other types of finger foods that would go with it. This should be a really good dance - so break out your fiesta clothes! Remember - 7:30 p.m. starts with plus dancing, rounds and mainstream at 8:00 p.m. through 10:30 p.m.

April 2016 Dances

8th, Fri. - Spring Fling with K.C. Curtis, caller; and Jackie Gale, cuer. Put on your best spring colors and come dance. KC will keep you moving and humming and enjoying it all with his terrific singing voice. And of course, Jackie Gale is back with her great round dance cues. Bring some nice, light colored finger foods to share. See you at 7:30 pm for Plus, and then at 8:00 pm for mainstream and rounds.

And remember the Dan Nordbye dance on the 12th - a Tuesday! We don't get a national caller in our area frequently, so don't miss this opportunity. It would be nice if all clubs could help with clean up and refreshments.

There will be a silent auction to raise money - so bring your items before 7:30 p.m. (actually 7:15 p.m. would be good). February 2016 Square Dances

The Wild Cards

Feb 12th - Sweetheart of  52nd Birthday Dance featuring the Wild Cards! Plus starts at 7:30 p.m., followed by mainstream with rounds (cued by Jackie Gale) at 8:00 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. The Happy Hoppers will be visiting us and we will greet them with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. All Single Trees members are welcome to the potluck as well as guests from other clubs, but if you attend the potluck, please bring a good-sized dish to share since we will have a busload of Happy Hoppers to feed. This will be an excellant dance as many of you know who have attended a dance featuring the Wild Cards.  Hope to see a lot of you!

Hopefully you are not danced out from attending Mid-Winter last month, or being an angel during lessons for the last four months … because these are going to be really good dances.
